A major aircraft engine OEM engaged ALTEN to provide thermofluid analysis and modeling support for complex engine systems. The primary challenge was to accurately predict flow fields and thermal behavior across various engine components, ensuring performance, safety, and certification readiness.

ALTEN contributed through geometry preparation, meshing, and simulation of both 1D air system models and 3D CFD-based thermal/stress models. The team enhanced boundary condition modeling in SC03 and conducted transient analyses to predict displacement, heat transfer coefficients, and swirl behavior. They validated results through comparative assessments and optimized the process using NX, Davinci, and SMART tools.

These efforts enabled more accurate prediction of engine behavior under varying conditions and improved confidence in certification data. ALTEN’s comprehensive support—from model setup to simulation scripting and reporting—helped the OEM streamline its thermal and airflow validation processes, contributing to improved engine reliability and compliance.
