Although additive manufacturing technologies offer benefits compared to other manufacturing techniques, they can also cause difficulties when performing computational analyses. In this paper, we examine the nature of the material properties of fused deposition modeling (FDM)-produced components and the difficulties in applying rigorous analysis. We then use a demonstrative component to explore the effects of the build orientation on the mechanical response.
