Modernize your embedded systems. Re-implemented MPEG-2 video pipelines and built automated tests, enhancing product longevity and manufacturing.
ALTEN Technology undertook a project focused on the firmware design for a Ground Control System (GCS) in UAS/Robotics applications. This involved a comprehensive approach, including determining key product requirements from the legacy system, updating an existing real-time operating system (RTOS) based application to run on Linux, conducting an Ethernet root cause investigation, and re-implementing the MPEG-2 video pipeline. The successful completion of the project by ALTEN Technology led to the implementation of critical drivers, interfaces, and a hardware abstraction layer. This significantly increased product longevity and resolved hardware end-of-life concerns, while also establishing an eMMC flash process for production manufacturing and building automated system tests accessible via external ports. The project leveraged technologies such as Yocto for a custom embedded Linux distribution, Gstreamer for multimedia, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, primarily utilizing the NXP i.MX6 multicore processor.
