Revolutionize A320 production. Optimized pre-assembly, transferred key tasks, and improved ergonomics, boosting productivity by 25-35% for ramp-up.
A significant project undertaken by ALTEN Technology focused on enhancing the pre-assembly process for a major aircraft OEM’s Airbus A320 family production line, specifically in Mobile, AL. The primary goal was to optimize operations to support increased production demand and facilitate the introduction of a second assembly line. ALTEN Technology achieved this by benchmarking global Airbus sites and conducting a thorough analysis of current operations. Key subassembly activities were identified and proposed for transfer to the pre-assembly workshop, effectively expanding its scope and boosting efficiency. The comprehensive optimization plan included essential ERP and Standard Operation Instruction updates, alongside improvements to workshop layout and material storage. Furthermore, the initiative incorporated cross-functional training, ergonomic enhancements with new holding fixtures and trolley standardization, and the implementation of an SQCDP dashboard with visual aids for robust performance tracking. Utilizing key tools such as Lean Manufacturing, Value Stream Mapping, and data analytics, ALTEN Technology aimed to synthesize process states, design improved production processes, and provide cost/benefit assessments. These strategic improvements are projected to result in a 25% to 35% increase in productivity, better preparedness for production ramp-up, and a finalized configuration for the new assembly line.
