A commercial aviation aircraft OEM engaged ALTEN Technology to address persistent paint peeling issues identified on center wing boxes during the fay seal application process, particularly when a foam roller was used. ALTEN Technology initiated a comprehensive approach focused on determining the root cause, which included extensive information gathering, conducting site visits and interviews, and performing detailed material testing and analysis. Their investigation also encompassed analyzing lead drilling operations, evaluating tape test procedures, and conducting comparative analyses of painting sources and lead integrator differences. This thorough methodology enabled ALTEN Technology to develop and implement effective solutions, alongside continuous quality control monitoring and meticulous documentation. As a result of these efforts, ALTEN Technology successfully provided conformity evidence for the paint process, demonstrated through an abusive drill test that the paint peel could not be replicated, and furnished all paint work orders for every shipment, effectively resolving the complex paint adhesion challenge.
