ALTEN Technology undertook a significant project to modernize the Ground Control System (GCS) firmware for UAS/Robotics applications. This initiative involved a comprehensive review of the legacy system to identify key product requirements, followed by successfully updating the existing real-time operating system (RTOS) application to run on a Linux environment, and reimplementing the critical MPEG-2 video pipeline. The efforts culminated in the implementation of essential drivers, interfaces, and a hardware abstraction layer (HAL), which not only resolved pressing hardware end-of-life concerns but also significantly increased the product’s longevity, alongside establishing an efficient eMMC flash process for production manufacturing and building robust automated system tests.
