A Lean Efficiency Program led by ALTEN Technology aimed to significantly boost production in commercial aviation, targeting a doubling of factory throughput and substantial cost reductions. The initiative involved deploying a team of 44 manufacturing engineers to two major final assembly lines. Their work included initial time studies and the implementation of core lean manufacturing methodologies such as work cell process flow optimization, a pull system with kanban material staging, visual factory concepts, and new tooling. Rapid team ramp-up, the consultants’ expertise in time clocking and client processes, a strong performance mindset, and effective communication were identified as key success factors for this project, which leveraged tools like SAP, Skywise, and AIRINA.
