ALTEN partnered with IMA Medtech to optimize blood sample processing by modernizing machine controls, shortening cycle times, and upgrading automation systems. From motion path tweaks to software upgrades, ALTEN’s support helped unlock faster, more accurate diagnostics across Europe’s lab landscape.
A project involving IMA Automation Medtech saw ALTEN Technology provide critical expertise in enhancing the SRA Machine, a refrigerated automatic storage system vital for blood typing activities. This machine, initially developed by Komax for ROCHE and later managed by IMA Medtech, required a thorough understanding of its existing program to facilitate significant optimizations and future upgrades. ALTEN Technology’s work encompassed the development of a new machine version supporting SLS mode, comprehensive cycle time optimization through refined trajectories, synchronized operations, and efficient waste monitoring, alongside the integration of an advanced barcode reader. The project also included a substantial hardware overhaul, involving the replacement of core components like the CPU, drives, and motors, a crucial program translation from TwinCAT 2 to TwinCAT 3, and the meticulous integration of safety features with SLS. Throughout the process, ALTEN Technology delivered debug and commissioning services, updated user documentation, and provided the client with graphical performance insights through referential cycle timesheets, ensuring a comprehensively upgraded solution.
