Addressing the need for a highly efficient and cost-effective production solution, a customer engaged ALTEN Technology to design and implement an automated assembly and calibration line for their new miniature IR cameras. The core challenge was to achieve a design-to-cost target of “pennies each” for processing and calibrating units, encompassing all hardware, labor, and operational costs within a $4.3 million budget. ALTEN Technology provided comprehensive engineering, designing the entire architecture, equipment, and throughput studies for an 8-station system with a full database. The project was successfully completed under the set cost target. Furthermore, the innovative system was designed with exceptional flexibility, allowing minor software updates to accommodate over 12 current camera variants on the same line. Its capability for worldwide rollout and remote software support ensured concurrent production starts and continuous software rollouts without the need for travel or system downtime.
