Upgrading military vehicle ergonomics? This project qualified new seat cushioning and a hatch mechanism for improved comfort and safety.
Working with a defense manufacturer, ALTEN Technology successfully designed, built, analyzed, and qualified significant upgrades for a ground-based military vehicle. The project focused on enhancing the comfort of three different seats and specifically reducing mobility restrictions for one of them. Additionally, improvements were made to the vehicle’s ingress/egress hatch to improve the ease of opening and to create a more secure locking mechanism when the hatch is in an open position. Utilizing key tools and technologies such as Creo and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), ALTEN Technology delivered solutions that were subsequently qualified by a military agency for retrofitting. The results included new seat cushioning and configuration modifications, along with a new hatch mechanism that significantly reduced the force required to open it. Furthermore, the improved locking of the hatch in the open position is expected to reduce safety incidents, such as the hatch vibrating closed during operation.
